GAYA: A Japanese tourist in her mid-20s was allegedly gangraped by five people, including two autorickshaw drivers, on a riverside road near a village in Bodh Gaya late on Friday evening.
A resident of suburban Tokyo, the woman was on a tour to Buddhist pilgrim towns in India. She came to Bodh Gaya a couple of days ago and stayed at a guest house. Around 8.30pm on Friday, she was on the way to Gaya railway station on a hired three-wheeler to catch a train for Kolkata when three men in another auto followed her.
In her statement to Magadh range DIG Anupama Nilekar, she said her auto driver after covering some distance refused to proceed further and asked her to take the other auto in which the three men were following her. As she shifted to the other vehicle, the first vehicle's driver parked his auto and joined the group in the second vehicle.
She was taken to a lonely place where she freed herself and cried for help. But she was soon overpowered and raped by the five men, including the two drivers. DIG Nilekar said three suspects have been detained and medical examination has been conducted on the victim.
